A Playlist for a Good December Boogie

By Kinga Irzyk

We are entering the final month of the year, and it’s time we set the tone for the last few days of 2020 and the beginning of 2021. Another month of lockdown is on the books, and some of the things I miss the most are dancing with my friends. Dancing with strangers! Going to the Dive Bar and being unable to control the urge to twirl along to ABBA’s Dancing Queen!

There are certain songs I would hear while out, and it did not matter if I was in the back of the longest line at the bar. I HAD to be on the dancefloor for the duration of that song, while hoping the next one would be a bop, too. Now, there’s no crowded bar where my joy awaits the randomness of the DJ du jour. And thus: We curate our own happiness, friends!

I will note — I personally gravitate towards funky, older songs that make me want to twirl underneath a disco ball. I think the vibrancy of disco, while I never experienced it, is irresistible. It’s dark outside at 4 p.m. now, and to keep myself awake, there’s nothing quite like toe-tapping along to this while I debate with myself if I am cooking dinner or just eating a bowl of popcorn for the evening. I hope you find yourself dancing — and boogying — with me.

xoxo
